Upregulates BDNF and NGF expression, modulates dopaminergic and serotonergic transmission, and inhibits enkephalin-degrading enzymes. Demonstrates neuroprotective effects via reduced excitotoxicity and oxidative stress.
Common research protocols use 250–600mcg intranasally 1–3× daily, or subcutaneously at similar doses. Cycles typically run 2–4 weeks with breaks. Higher doses (up to 1200mcg/day) appear in stroke-recovery research.
Plasma half-life is very short (minutes), but CNS effects persist for hours due to BDNF/NGF upregulation cascades.
Reconstitute a 5mg vial with 2–5mL bacteriostatic water (or sterile saline for intranasal). Swirl gently.
Lyophilised: 2–8°C, stable 18–24 months. Reconstituted: 2–8°C, protect from light, use within 30 days.
